Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-selector

I live in Finland, but I like my computer to speak english to me. There should be two selections in language support gui, "Default Language" and "Default Region".
Now i have to select english as default language and edit /etc/environment to have other locales fi_FI, except LC_MESSAGES

my /etc/environment:
PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games"
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="en_US:en"
LC_CTYPE="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="fi_FI.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="fi_FI.UTF-8"

This would be nice to have feature

Like almost all users in Finland, I have the same problem. I assume this is a problem in some other countries too.

Doesn't work in Hardy either.

Especially lacking LC_PAPER="fi_FI.UTF-8" jams many printers. Sending an US Letter to a printer often requires physically going to a network printer before anyone can print again.

This issue has been a problem for a while, so I have compiled some notes about it:
