Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-pack-kde-en

I just tried an upgrade to Hardy on one of my boxes. Kdm logins hung with X using 100% of CPU during the kde splash screen.

I then tried `startx` with `startkde` in my .xsession and got this:

Xsession: X session started for jon at Tue Jan 29 20:46:05 NST 2008
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/30xorg-common_xresources: line 13: run_parts: command not found

Warning: connect() failed: : Connection refused
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!

startkde: Done.

I then ran `LANG="en_US.UTF-8" startx` and all was fine.

The fix suggested above ( LANG="en_US.UTF-8" startx ) works for KDE3.5.x. I still cannot bring up KDE4, however.

This might be a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-default-settings/+bug/193498

A fix is listed in that bug report (remove /etc/kde4rc, logout, login).
