Bug Description

I started my computer in the morning 2012-08-03 and Ubuntu asked me whether I want to rename some default home subfolders (Pictures, Videos and so). I was informed by a dialog that it is due to the change of a language pack. Since I'm never touching anything like this and I'm using the system with preinstalled czech environment I realized that latest SW actualization must be the reason. I played with the "Language settings" dialog which couldn't fix this problem. Czech support is grayed out and cannot be selected. Instead of it the default english environment is active. But it gave me a trace what might happen. It reported that the language support was not installed comletely and tried to install it. But it wasn't able to install packages language-pack-kde-cs and language-pack-kde-cs-base saying something about dependency problem. I tried to download manually both these packages in the version of 1:12.04+20120417 but it didn't help. I'm attaching messages reported by the Language settings application:

Immediately after running the application a dialog window appears saying:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The language support is not installed completely

Some translations or writing aids available for your chosen languages are not installed yet. Do you want to install them now?

Details:

language-pack-kde-cs
kde-l10n-cs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After clicking the Install button and authentication an error dialog window opens:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could not install the full language support

Transaction failed: None
 The following packages have unmet dependencies:

language-pack-kde-cs: Depends: language-pack-kde-cs-base (>= 1:12.04+20120417) but 1:12.04+20120801 is to be installed
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And after closing it another one appears:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Package dependencies cannot be resolved

This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

Details:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

language-pack-kde-cs: Depends: language-pack-kde-cs-base (>= 1:12.04+20120417) but 1:12.04+20120801 is to be installed

Have the same problem here with the german locale. All of a sudden (after one of the recent updates) most KDE applications come up in english. Checking in Muon I find the german language packs are not installed. When trying to install them I get the following error:

The "language-pack-kde-de-base" package could not be marked for installation or upgrade:
 Depends: language-pack-kde-de, but it is not installable

On the command line, trying to install the german language packs with apt-get, it indicates a version mismatch:

$ sudo apt-get install language-pack-kde-de-base language-pack-kde-de language-pack-de language-pack-de-base

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 language-pack-de-base : Depends: language-pack-de (>= 1:12.04+20120801) but 1:12.04+20120618 is to be installed
                         Recommends: firefox-locale-de but it is not going to be installed
                         Conflicts: language-pack-de (< 1:12.04+20120801) but 1:12.04+20120618 is to be installed
 language-pack-kde-de-base : Depends: language-pack-kde-de (>= 1:12.04+20120801) but 1:12.04+20120508 is to be installed
                             Conflicts: language-pack-kde-de (< 1:12.04+20120801) but 1:12.04+20120508 is to be installed

Can someone fix this quickly?

Fixed it here. I remembered that I activated the "proposed updates" in the package source settings. I unmarked it, then purged all of the language-packs:

apt-get purge language-pack-kde-de-base language-pack-kde-de language-pack-de language-pack-de-base

Then reinstalled them:

apt-get install language-pack-de language-pack-de-base language-pack-kde-de language-pack-kde-de-base

The packages installed properly. Need a KDE restart to verify that everything is in german again now, but I can't do it at the moment. I'm quite confident that this is the case.
