GNOME: Strings like "unsafe device remove" not translated to german

Bug #163391 reported by Jonas H on 2007-11-17

Bug Description

Very simple and primitve strings aren't translated in my german GNOME, for example
the "unsafe device remove"-dialog oder the
"leave message"-button when deactivating a screensaver.

I searched for these strings in the translations but i didn't find those strings untranslated. So I think it's a bug?
It is possible that such primitve strings weren't translated by anybody yet?
I'd translate them if there isn't anyone who thinks that translating them is important.

Thanks for your report. Ubuntu gets its translations from the Translations module of Launchpad at, where translation teams work on making Ubuntu more useful in their language. If you want to change or add to translations of these software, you can do so at and .

I've just downloaded the gnome-volume-manager translation tarball, and it indeed seems the "Unsafe device removal" string isn't translated.

Changed in language-pack-de:
status: New → Invalid

Yes, you're right...Sorry, I didn't think that such a primitve string isn't translated yet.
And whats about screensaver? There aren't any untranslated strings.

That probably means those translations arrived too late in the cycle [1], after the translation deadlines [2]. GnomeScreensaver's "Leave Message" feature was a last minute addition to the release, so that's actually highly probable.

Can i patch these translations on my own? Which file do I have to edit?
