Bug Description

On a friend's PC there's french GUI ubuntu 5.10 but often, the GUI goes to english in nautilus and sometimes for others softs.
the english is not everywhere and every time but it's armfull to someone who doesn't speak english.
it does the same to me sometimes. I erase english translation for GUI but nothing better occurs.

Can you please describe this problem a little more detailled? I. e. does the GUI 'suddenly' switch to English, or is it sometimes English, sometimes French after logging in? How can you trigger the change?

If you have the English case, can you please enter

  locale

in a terminal and copy&paste the output here? Also, if you enter

  gedit

does it appear in English or French? How does it appear if you enter

  LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 gedit

?

Thanks!

I can confirm that in my Spanish desktop. After some time working in Spanish, suddenly it becomes in English. I don't know why nor exactly when, and the exact moment varies "randomly" between sessions. The problem was in Breezy and is still in Dapper.

My "locale" output:

LANG=es_ES.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=es_ES:es:en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

Now, I'm writing here and nautilus is in English, but gedit is in Spanish. And if I do:

LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 nautilus

nautilus still appears in English.

Ideally I'd like Yaen to answer:
Does that still happens with a newer version, like 7.04?
