Apport retracing service (apport) wrote : Possible regression detected

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #349996. However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the problem is in a dependent package.

Crashed after i upgradet from 9.04 to 9.10
This release still have many bugs, if you are using upgrade option.
Better do clean install.

Andreas Hasenack (ahasenack) wrote :

The crash happens because *during* the upgrade the landscape-sysinfo cron job eventually kicks in, and during that time the dependencies are off.

In karmic there is no cron job anymore, and additionally we catch import errors and ignore them should someone decide to login on the system *during* the upgrade and trigger a landscape-sysinfo run.

Doesn't sound like there's anything further we can/should do to fix this, then.

This crash happened for me when I booted after having ran the Jaunty to Karmic (RC) upgrade.

It happened for me during the upgrade too.

I may have misunderstood what the people above are saying, but "it only crashes once during the upgrade, and then never again" doesn't sound like a good reason to WONTFIX this bug. Things crashing during upgrades is ugly and unprofessional, and scares people that the upgrade hasn't worked right.

This bug affects me too. Same as above, after reboot the upgraded from jaunty to karmic.

I agree with Gerv above. It's better to see no crash after an upgrade

intrepid-proposed already has the package with the same fixes as karmic, and it should land in jaunty too sometime. hardy and dapper will also get these fixes once the later distros have it.

About the crash happening after booting, that's actually when apport is *reporting* it. It doesn't mean the crash is happening at that exact time.

AOL on what people are saying above about this needing to be fixed; it's really uninspiring to go to file a crash report and find the bug is happening a lot but marked as WONTFIX.

Same here. WONTFIX?!

This happened to me after I had upgraded to Karmic final and restarted system. Also WONTFIX?

Is it really that uninspiring? As far as I can tell this bug only happens during the upgrade...and that's it. Has it happened any more times and is anything actually broken? Because if not then why fix a 'problem' that is not really a problem. Maybe just put it on the low hanging fruit pile.

Showed up on 9.04->9.10 upgrade. It does seem like there will be a lot of bugspam from this, suprised by WONTFIX but expected given this will go away once upgraded.

So, having suffered this bug on upgrade to Karmic, does that mean that the upgrade has worked or not? Nothing here tells me if my machine is screwed or not! I'll follow the best traditions of the community and suck it and see, but it's less than helpful, even without the WONTFIX argument.

It worked.

The problem is not in Karmic, the problem is in Jaunty, and we're going to backport the fix. Although, a SRU for another version is just out of the door, so it's going to take a while.

Identical behaviour on the two computers that I upgraded. Both Dell Latitude: one CPiR 400 GT, one C800.
Both upgraded 8.04 LTS-> 8.10->9.04->9.10
Saw the crash report announced after restart after upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10. Could have been there earlier without me noticing it. The crash wasn't there in 8.04 LTS.
