sound subsystem locks in kubuntu hardy

Kubuntu

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

gusty has the same prob, When you run kvpnc as root is sound subsystem will lock and hang. Even if you try to reboot it will hang. What is funny is it worked fine until the updates that took place on Jan 30 or 31. The same thing happend with gusty, it worked fine during the alpha then broke.

It seems to happen when you have something open in super user ( kdesu ) that access the sound subsystem. Like kvpnc which has to be ran as super user.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04? What's the output from `sudo fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/seq* /dev/snd/*' ?

I'm no longer using that version. I'm now using amd64 and 8.10. Now it will
not disconnect when you right click and disconnect. Sorry no help.
