2024-07-09 20:06:50 Aaron Rainbolt description Steps to reproduce: 1: Ensure you are using Kubuntu 24.04 or 24.10. 2: Open System Settings. 3: In the left sidebar, scroll to the bottom and click "About this System". Expected result: The Kubuntu logo should have a transparent background. Actual result: The Kubuntu logo is on a solid-white background that looks out of place. [ Impact ] Due to an oversight during the Kubuntu rebrand in the 24.04 cycle, two Kubuntu logo images were left with a solid white background when they should have been transparent. This may affect any application that attempts to display the logo by using /usr/share/pixmaps/kubuntu-logo.png. It also affects the System Settings application. The logo appears with a white background, which generally looks jarring and unexpected in most color schemes (even the light theme, where the solid white is just a bit whiter than the light background color). This SRU fixes the issue by simply changing the white background to transparency for both problematic icons. Whatever is behind the logo will show through - in the case of System Settings, this means the default light theme color will show as the background if a light theme is in use, and the default dark theme color will show as the background if a dark theme is in use. [ Test plan ] 1: Boot up a Kubuntu 24.04 machine. 2: Install kubuntu-settings-desktop from -proposed. 3: Reboot. 4: Open the System Settings app. 5: In the left sidebar, scroll down and click "About this System". 6: Ensure the icon looks correct in your current theme. 7: Open /usr/share/pixmaps/kubuntu-logo.png with Gwenview, then open fullscreen view and ensure that the dark background used by Gwenview shows through. [ Where problems could occur ] If one or both of the icons is corrupted, it could result in the icons not displaying at all, or potentially crashing apps that attempt to use them. The above test plan will catch such issues. ----- Original bug report Steps to reproduce: 1: Ensure you are using Kubuntu 24.04 or 24.10. 2: Open System Settings. 3: In the left sidebar, scroll to the bottom and click "About this System". Expected result: The Kubuntu logo should have a transparent background. Actual result: The Kubuntu logo is on a solid-white background that looks out of place.
