After the install is completed, jockey-kde claims "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system" even though I asked for them to be installed.

If I install build-essential first, it at least tries to install the driver, but then jockey crashes. I'll post the traceback here once I get the machine connected to a network.

It looks like bcmwl-kernel-source was missing off the DVD (fixed), but it shouldn't crash.

According to the log file, jockey did not find any package indexes, and no bcmwl-kernel-source package. I suppose this was an offline DVD install, so jockey wasn't actually mean to offer and display any drivers? Did it? Or did you just select the "install proprietary stuff" option in ubiquity which ought to install it if available?

I reproduced this scenario on an Ubuntu live system in kvm with -net none, and removing the CD-ROM source. It failed in exactly the same way. I fixed the crash, and now it fails gracefully. Also, after re-adding the CD-ROM source, the driver was installed successfully. So for now I assume that this crash fix, plus you adding bcmwl-kernel-source to the DVD ought to be sufficient.

If not, please follow up here.

Thanks!

It was a live session from the Kubuntu DVD. I've since determined that bcmwl-kernel-source wasn't available (fixed in the Kubuntu seeds), but it wasn't at all clear what was happening at the time.

I'm not sure what's supposed to happen in a case like this, but the current user experience isn't very satisfying IMO.
