As for making it impossible to install plymouth- theme-kubuntu- logo and plymouth- theme-ubuntu- logo, that is a bit insane. What we do instead is use /etc/alternatives. This way here you can have a million plymouth themes and change to which ever one you want to use. Making themes incompatible with each other is not the correct way to go at all.
