Unfortunately the multimedia backend of choice (xine) does not support midi, thus providing midi file support would require adding a second backend or an application which processes midi directly. The former is not possible due to CD space restrictions and the latter raises security issues since bugs in an application processing binary data can potentially be abused to do bad things to a system.

Therefore we are rejecting this wish.

If you wish, you can file a request with the xine developers http://www.xine-project.org to implement midi support. But until it is available we can not add midi playback support by default.

I hope you can understand why we have made this choice and don't find it too diffcult to install additional software for midi playback.

Nontheless I'd like to thank you for this suggestion and wish you a nice day.
