Bug Description

Recently, Akonadi starts automatically when Kubuntu 23.10 starts, wasting RAM space, CPU cycles, battery life, etc. when it's not used. This didn't happen before, Kubuntu worked without needing Akonadi. In /var/log/syslog we can see, for example:
    kalendarac[2398]: org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: Running DB initializer

There's more information on:
- https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/725548/kde-plasma-prevent-akonadi-stuff-from-being-launched-at-startup
- (a good solution is offered there:) https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/how-can-i-disable-calendar-reminders/75984
- (more cases:) https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/vp4bam/why_is_calendar_reminders_using_270_mb_or_ram_on/

And thanks for the good work of Kubuntu, by the way!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2045182/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I am not seeing /etc/xdg/autostart/kalendarac in 24.04 testing so perhaps it was fixed? Can you confirm this is still an issue.

Thanks, Scarlett. The problem was not detected using today's "Kubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) Daily Build":

$ sudo grep -i akonad /var/log/syslog
$ sudo grep -i kalend /var/log/syslog
$ ls /etc/xdg/autostart/*kal*
ls: cannot access '/etc/xdg/autostart/*kal*': No such file or directory
$ ps aux | grep -i [a]konad
$ akonadictl status
Command 'akonadictl' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install akonadi-server
$ dpkg -l | grep -i akonadi
