Kubuntu already uses Calamares as the Kubuntu installer.

Calamares doesn't have an option to leave /boot unencrypted (the way Kubuntu/Ubiquity does currently), which causes some problems:

An option will be add and the pull request is yet to be made. I think the switch should happen only after the implementation of this option.
