Desktop killed when powering off a monitor using Display Port

Bug Description

Using Ubuntu 17.10 on desktop computer using Intel HD4000 Graphics, connected to a Dell monitor using DisplayPort. When the monitor is powered off, the whole desktop crashes as soon as it is powered on again.
