Bug Description

After I installed kubuntu-desktop the "Shut down" option no longer shows in the "shut down"-dialog in Gnome.

I installed kubuntu-desktop with "sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop". Now I have to use "sudo halt" or log out and then shut down from kdm to halt my machine.

I run ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon.

I cant' really say if this issue still is valid though I found a solution to the problem. I had both kubuntu and ubuntu installed and used kdm as login manager. This caused some options not to show in the Gnome "logout" dialog. I solved this by setting gdm as login manager in some textfile. After that it seems to work as it should.

I could retest this later if you want me to?

Another matter here is how tricky the operation of setting the login manager is. I think one should be able to do this somewhere in the GUI.

This is not exactly an issue related to kubuntu.
You chose KDM as default display manager at installation, GNOME however depends on GDM in order to do root-permission-requiring operations like reboot and shutdown. The very same applies for KDE, just that it depends on KDM for these actions.

Eventually you could report a bug to provide these features on a generic level independent of KDM/GDM or implemented in a display manager agnostic way.
