Bug Description

The session save / restore function in KDE5 no longer respects the virtual desktops that the applications were started in.

To duplicate:
-- Configure multiple virtual desktops (I'm using 4).
-- Start a dolphin session in Desktop 1, and a Konsole session in Desktop 4.
-- Log out.
-- Log back in.

(I'm currently using the manual session saving, but it seems to occur with the automatic 'save session on logout' option as well).

In Kubuntu 14.10 (KDE 4), the dolphin session will be restored to Desktop 1, and the Konsole session to Desktop 4.

In Kubuntu 15.04, everything gets restored to Desktop 1.

This becomes extremely annoying when there are a lot of applications saved in the session (multiple dolphin / konsole windows, firefox / thunderbird etc.), as previously they'd get restored correctly to their appropriate desktops, and now everything gets smashed into Desktop 1.

When working with multiple screens, the session save / restore function in KDE5 no longer respects the screen either.

It does not respect different activities, too.

This issue is still present in latest wily beta.

I have a fairly big desktop with with ~15 konsole windows, browsers, email client, ecc.... restoring the desktop takes a fairly big time.

This, plus the frequent issues in suspending and resuming the machine (crash) make this a farily important issue for me and I presume for some other people.

The update to 15.10 has solved the problem here.

I still have this issue, but it varies from application to application. Konsole is the most problematic. When logging in, KDE remembers which workspace I was on, and remembers all the instances of Konsole in the session, but puts all those konsoles at the active workspace (so I have to manuall spread them around to their intended workspaces). Loggin out and back in, and the konsoles are once again gathered at one workspace (the first one displayed). Some other apps works as intended: Deluge-gtk opens at another workspace, the correct (remembered) one. Kmail, however, doesn't restore fully, just as a letter icon in the indicator bar.

Ubuntu version: Kubuntu 15.10 wily

A few weeks ago, directly after updating to 15.10, it did seem to work. Apparently this was just luck, because now nothing seems to be restored. When manually restarting Firefox, it tries to restore its windows, but dumps them all on the current desktop.

Just adding my voice to this bug and pointing out that its presence is preventing my migration to the 16.04 version of Kubuntu. I have Xenial installed and ready to go but simply can't use it if it is necessary to restore all my apps in their respective desktops on each boot. 14.04 still works perfectly in this respect.

Many thanks to the dedicated folks who turn their attention to this issue.

I just saw that crash again on Plasma 5 (Linux Mint 18.2, which is based on Kubuntu 16.04)
