Bug Description

Recently most of the directories/folders below "/" are "missing" in both Konqueror (Kubuntu) and (Nautilus) Ubuntu.

The only way to get to the "missing" directories is to know where you want to go and type the location in the location bar.

This also affects file/save dialogs in both GNOME and KDE.

That in particular has presented a real problem. It's been most apparent in KDE. Attempting to type the path in the file open/save dialogs often causes the app (and sometimes all of KDE) to freeze (temporarily and sometimes to the proint of requring a restart).

This does not affect the console interface. "ls -al" lists all the directories as they should be. It just seems to be a (rather odd) problem in X.

A little more research has shown that (as they say at Microsoft) ..... "It's not a bug, it's a 'feature'".

Somebody decided Kubuntu needed some "dumbing down".

*sigh*

The new and improved kubuntu-default-settings package is now "minty fresh" and includes...

/etc/kubuntu-default-settings/hidden-root
/etc/kubuntu-default-settings/hidden-media

PLEASE get rid of this.

Thanks. :-)
