Bug Description

Binary package hint: kphotoalbum

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"
kphotoalbum version=3.1.0-1build1

The same bahaviour for
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10"
kphotoalbum version=3.0.2-1build1

When I try the search dialog I get only empty window (no docked window). The same happens when I try to annotate items (I guess it is the same dialog). This strange behaviour occurs only when I have System Settings -> Regional and Language ->Languages (first czech).

If I have English as the first language then the dialog displays correctly (but in english :( )

If I try to open a new window through the options button, it is opened but not swalowed/docked in the parent window (see the attachement)

Confirming due to upstream report, however it is stated in upstream report that it will not get fixed for KDE 3.x but is fixed in KDE 4.

Have you tried on Hardy & KPhotoalbum 3.1.1?

I must confirm, that there is the same bahaviour in kde4:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=Intrepid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.10"
kphotoalbum version=3.1.1

Even if I use kde4, if I try the about dialog I get the following (see attachment). It says that it uses kde 3.5.10

Today I tried to compile it from svn (http://www.kphotoalbum.org/download-svn.html, there is change in ubuntu - You must use package kde-devel) and it worked! (Beware of the kde bug - see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=996173)

I hope, that ubuntu team will rebuild the version with kde4 libs.

Now I can finaly use my native language!

It's not recommended to use the SVN: Earlier KPhotoAlbum SVN has been ~nice stable but last summer some MAJOR changes (for example change from using an XML backend to using a SQL(ite) backend!!) were made. So be careful and please report all your experiences to the authors (see kphotoalbum.com and report to the KDE bug tracker at bugs.kde.org). So it could be a really bad idea to package the SVN version in Ubuntu..

That being said, nice to hear it works for you!

Unless someone provide a patch, I'm afraid this won't be fixed. I've played with it, but didn't find any fix except disabling custom layouts completely. This is what was done for the KDE4 version. It should be noted here that workaround is to:

 1) remove layout.xml (*NOT* index.xml) from your photo directory if it's here
 2) run `KDE_LANG=en_US kphotoalbum`
 3) select one picture
 4) press Ctrl+1 for annotation dialog
 5) press Options->Save Current Window Setup
 6) exit KPhotoAlbum Any further sessions will work perfectly.
"""

Because this was a KDE 3 package this report was filed against, it will not be fixed in KDE 3. However this has been fixed in KDE 4 due to a different code base for this feature. Thank you for your time and patience.
