Bug Description

Kubuntu LiveDVD downloaded from an approved mirror and burned to DVD. sha256sum matches for ISO and check media reports no issues.

After executing "Try Kubuntu" and finally getting to the desktop, Konsole opens, but upon pressing any key in the console window, X (or KDE?) seems to crash, showing me the text bootup screen for a few seconds and then some sort of Plasma screen requiring me to enter a password.

The only way to get a working command line is to use one of X's text console screens.

Very bizarre and I can't believe that I am either the only one to experience this or the first one to report it.

Here is the contents of /var/log/apport.log:

Here's a possibly relevant lines from /var/log/syslog:

Oct 28 21:06:12 kubuntu dbus[1325]: [system] Successfully activated service 'org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper'

Nothing out of the ordinary in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

I can reproduce this at will so please advise what else may be needed.

Trying to do the procedure outlined in http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?60582-No-Konsole-startup-12-10 via Dolphin causes the same crash upon first keypress in the Dolphin console, so no hope of getting any more information.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. This looks like a konsole issue as that is what seems to crash....

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal) reached end-of-life on May 16, 2014.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when using a currently supported release of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.
