It starts fine for me now. I'm not sure when this might have been fixed. Thanks.

It doesn't start on 8.10 either:

$ kword
kbuildsycoca running...
kbuildsycoca: ERROR creating database '/var/tmp/kdecache-USERNAME/ksycoca'! Nincs ilyen fájl vagy könyvtár

which means: no such file or directory.
