Bug Description

I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed with kubuntu-desktop. OS is completely updated.

I wanted to install Koffice, so I typed in terminal: sudo apt-get install koffice, the error I got was as has been reported before: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/koffice/+bug/344558

I then typed sudo apt-get install kformula, with the following result:
(notice the packages to be removed, it actually wants to remove KDE)

Unfortunately I didn't read and I actually ended up removing KDE completely.... :) When I again wanted to install kubuntu desktop, it mentioned that kformula will be removed.... basically it's either one or the other..

Same here. As we're already three of us confirming the bug, I'm changing the status to confirmed. I've only recommended and security updates on, no odd repositories.

As long as koffice 1.6 is the recommended version by developers, and meanwhile canonical supports the package (as it appears from synaptic), I think this bug it's quite important. Anyway I'll let the original submitter or a packager to change the importance of the bug ;-)

Changed in koffice (Ubuntu):

I just upgraded to Jaunty from Intrepid x64 and got the same thing.

KPackageKit just hung on "Querying/Getting Dependencies" so I tried apt-get instead. I saw KDE going away and hit control C. Maybe not the best idea?

To repair I first had to run

sudo dpkg --configure -a

and then copied/pasted the uninstalled stuff listed on the screen, a dozen or so at a time, into

sudo apt-get install

Seems to be fine now.

Is there a better way to undo the damage?

Clarifications:

I'm using Kubuntu.

KPackageKit hung when I tried to install KOffice.

I lost KDE when I installed Kformula with apt-get
