Bug Description

Repeatedly fails upupgrade.
This is a fairly recent install and upgrade (saucy to trusty), and still updating.
Usually I get error referencing error code 6 when using sudo apt-get update, stating kismet failed the update
Also my wallpaper displays a garbled image or none; or programs freeze--is kismet causing a problem with my display??
I am so far an intermittent Ubuntu user--please provide detailed explanation or example if you can respond to this.

Hi C,

If you take a look in VarLogDistupgradeApttermlog.gz file, there is the following message:

Setting up kismet (2013.03.R1b-3) ...
usermod: user 'CII' does not exist
dpkg: error processing package kismet (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 6
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of kismet-plugins:
 kismet-plugins depends on kismet (= 2013.03.R1b-3); however:
Package kismet is not configured yet.

This means that you specified the user CII, but this username does not exist in your system.
Please provide a valid username

This is practically a duplicate of Bug: #1172993 and I'm marking it as such

Kindest regards,
Nick

I log on 3-4 times a day as such and my password is xxxxxxx!
THAT was my point--sorry!
How do I fix That issue?

TIA, Nick=)

Thanks--believe I just fixed the problem--actually with the help of your reference bug #1172993. I exercised some due diligence and performed the purge and reinstall, hoping to determine whether the user was from my login prompt or from my indicated user name at the terminal prompt. THIS time I put Both user identities in on the configuration prompt, space-separated. When configuration resumed, my LOGIN user name (CII) was seen to be rejected; however, the configuration "took" anyway and my errors disappeared. Now I've got to see if Kismet works, which will make all this worthwhile.

Thanks Again!

C
