2005-12-29 21:07:48 Carlos de la Cruz Pinto bug added bug
2005-12-29 21:14:56 Carlos de la Cruz Pinto description When trying to import video from an iee1394 device, kino is not able to access /dev/raw1394, so by default, if a user wants to import video from him/her camera, he/she needs to run kino with sudo o gsudo. I think that apt should print a warning like "You should do <blah> for enabling a user to import video from an iee1394 device",or better, a dialog printing something ike "insert here what users you want to enable to access iee1394" or setting the SETUID bit to /usr/bin/kino. 2008-09-30 19:45:05 Duncan Lithgow description Deleted my post, it was incorrect. Reopening this bug. In Ubuntu 8.10 (Alpha 6) importing dv over firewire does not "just work" with Kino 1.3.0 I'm back at the familiar message: "WARNING: raw1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw1394 My first guess is that this is because someone forgot to set the flag needed during the build to enable support for /dev/video1394 which is not enabled by default...

Running Kino as root does not (strangely) get around this problem. I get the same error messages plus one about no camera being detected. It just switches between them.
