Inaccurate Estimate of Export Time

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kino

When exporting to MPEG/DVD, the estimated remaining time seems wildly pessimistic, eg: 20 hours for a project which will complete in about an hour. Perhaps the initial time taken to lock audio is not being subtracted from the time taken so far, when estimating the export frame rate(?)

Tested Version: 1.3.0-2ubuntu1 on Xubuntu Intrepid

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? I don't know how to export to anything.

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Thanks for following up on this.

To reproduce, a video clip with audio is necessary, such as might be downloaded from a certain popular website.
A 5-minute clip should suffice unless you're running some kind of suped-up multimedia workstation.
To export MPEGs the "mjpegtools" package should be present, plus whatever codecs are necessary to import the video clip to kino. Starting kino from a terminal will allow inspection of script commands given during the export operation.

Once in kino:-
File->Open to import
Click on Export tab (bottom right of image pane)
Click on MPEG tab
Enter a filename
Choose File format 0 - Generic MPEG1
Click on Export button.

First the audio should be locked and exported as MP2. This takes about 50 seconds on my non-suped P4.
Then the video conversion should commence. Initial export time estimate shows as around 30 hours but it gradually notches back to about 2 hours. That's it.

Thanks again for supporting this software, especially since it seems you are not a regular kino user...
Best Regards.

Tested Version: 1.3.4-1ubuntu1 on Xubuntu Lucid Beta (including updates to date)

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

Thanks to very clear directions, I am able to reproduce this issue in Lucid, up to date as of 2010-04-01. Unfortunately, I did not the export to complete, since my time appears to be about 352,819 hours and some minutes.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
