Bug Description

since the upgrade to 15.04 when you open kinfocenter in kde and click on open gl you get an application crash - the console output will say

the last line is of importance - after that kinfocenter crashes but doesnt close - it hangs ...

it seems sddm ... the new display/session manager uses display :1 instead of :0
it still crashes even I went through the code ... I see where the error happens but dont have figured out why ...

was there when migrating from plasma 4 to plasma 5 .. its not there anymore

just checked my dmesg output for other reasons and noticed this after the kinfocenter opengl-module related crash:

Possibly related: KDE Plasma doesn't seem to detect that my r300 is OpenGL 2.x compatible. I'm basing this on the lack of an "Invert" Desktop Effect, as described here: https://userbase.kde.org/Desktop_Effects_Performance#OpenGL_Version

my RV 770 aka HD 4870 is recognized as being OGL 3.1 capable by the KDE
compositor.

still even with the new compositor disabled ...
glxinfo gives the right output like
 OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.7.0-devel
(git-ec1c72d 2015-05-30 vivid-oibaf-ppa)
 OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30
 and the other one
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.7.0-devel (git-ec1c72d 2015-05-30
vivid-oibaf-ppa)
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30

@spear: How are you determining KDE compositor OpenGL version apart from kinfocenter?

After some research, my OpenGL 2.x issue may be due to the fact that r300 doesn't fully support GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two:

system settings - display and monitor .... compositor - choose backend -
GLX or EGL (still in development - wouldnt recommend it for desktops) is
the interface choice ...
i can choose between OGL 3.1, 2.0 and XRender (i got compositing disabled
most of the time)
in plasma 5

in KDE 4 it was somewhere under desktop effects -> advanced ... dont
remember anymore
but i guess you run vivid with plasma 5

should show the options used ...
