Bug Description

Hello Canonical.

We request to upgrade kimchi and ginger to latest upstream version 2.3.1.

Unfortunately we will not be able to push kimchi in Debian in time for 17.04, so, we are asking you to include Kimchi on Ubuntu, and we will have kimchi into Debian by the 17.10 time frame.

Two new packages were split up from kimchi and ginger and are required as a dependency now: wok 2.3.1 and ginger-base 2.2.2.

All packages are available on mentors:

dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wok/wok_2.3.1-1.dsc
dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/ginger-base/ginger-base_2.2.2-1.dsc
dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/ginger/ginger_2.3.1-1.dsc
dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/k/kimchi/kimchi_2.3.1-1.dsc

Thanks,

This package would need to be upgraded in Debian so that it can be synced to Ubuntu. This would require a community effort in getting this package upgraded to 2.3.1.

Manoj,

Unfortunately these packages are not on Debian yet. They are just in Ubuntu at this moment, and I don't think we will able to push to Debian before the Ubuntu Feature Freeze, since these are 4 packages.

Can we push to the partner archive, in the worst case?

As discussed on the interlock call, if Fedrico can update the package and may be push the updated packages to his PPA, we can get him some help on getting those updated packages into the Ubuntu archive after review.

Hi,
here is the packages in a PPA :
https://launchpad.net/~ibmpackages/+archive/ubuntu/kimchi-project/+packages

Note : kimchi dev team re-architectured the project and splitted kimchi into several components.
Ginger as a plugin remains ginger.
But kimchi got splitted as wok (the engine), ginger-base (a lib) and kimchi (plugin).
So :
- ginger got upgraded from 1.3.0.1-0ubuntu1 to 2.3.1-0ubuntu1
- kimchi got upgraded from 1.5.0-0ubuntu1 to 2.3.1-0ubuntu2 but the package content undergone many changes
- 2 new packages need to be pushed in Zesty archive : wok (its d/changelog closes this LP) and ginger-base

Who can review this and eventually sponsor those 4 packages in Ubuntu Zesty ?
Thanks,
F.

Frederic,

Given the current schedule of Zesty release (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ZestyZapus/ReleaseSchedule), we would need a feature freeze exception going forward to push these packages to the archive.

An alternative delivery mechanism for these apps would be through the snap store and snaps. Please follow this link https://snapcraft.io/ to learn more about how to create snaps and deliver them through the snap store.
