kile display of special characters in final pdf

Binary package hint: kile

2 computers with ubuntu installations:
Qt: 4.5.0
KDE: 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2)
Kile: 2.0.81

Ubuntu 9.04 \n \l
no problem with characters like \'e or \"a etc in LaTeX

on this install however they cannot be displayed and just appear as a space: (Note more recent release!)

Qt: 4.6.2
KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2)
Kile: 2.0.85
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS \n \l
on this install the quick build option also crashed each time, while repeatedly opening acroread to display the compiled document

If the special characters are not visible in the final PDF, then this may rather be an issue with your Latex -> PDF workflow pipeline and not with Kile itself.
