Wrong file names in Kile's errors and warnings summary

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kile

In running LaTeX on a job composed of multiple nested files, Kile fails to trace correctly the name of the file in which the error / warning issued, and reports the main, including, file name instead.

This bug seems to be the same as: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/00db20884f64da22 and http://<email address hidden>/msg10493.html.

It has been repaired in Kile 2.02 (see http://bugs.kde.org/172286), so the fix should be easy.
In the current state, much of Kile's usability is lost, since many processing jobs consist of multiple files.

Structure report.

1. Ubuntu 8.10
2. Kile 2.01
3. Expecting: latex error reports with the name of the (included) file in which the error occurred.
4. Instead: latex error reports with the name of the main (including) file, but with the correct line number

Was anyone out there successful in compiling Kile 2.02 under ubuntu?

I finally managed to compile 2.02.
It turns out that Kile needs the kdelibs4-dev pakcage
so you need to

sudo apt-get install kdelibs4-dev

The older KDE libraries which I installed were not sufficient, and conused the ./configure script.
Installing the newer version will remove these older libraries.

It would be nice if KILE2.02 is made into an ubuntu package.

Hi Yossi

Can I have you test if the problem is the same in the new kde4 version which is on the way. If you are running jaunty (alpha) it is in the archive; on intrepid you can find it in my PPA https://launchpad.net/~andreas-wenning/+archive/ppa

Changed in kile:
assignee: nobody → andreas-wenning
status: New → Incomplete

I would love to do help but i am not sure how.
I had to recompile Kile for another computer. again, i had problems in doing
that,
i looked it up in the internet, and i found the advise i once gave to
everyone, and it worked again for me like a charm, if i just install the
right library.

I am a bit hesitant to install jaunty. I checked out another your ppa, and
it only has Kile for Interpid.

BTW, Kile is wonderful.

@Yossi

In the bug report you wrote that you ran Ubuntu 8.10 which is Intrepid. The Kile in my PPA will install on Ubuntu 8.10.

In this case, I am not sure what you mean. Would you like me to download
Debian package and see if downloads and installs Kile 2.02 fine?

Well, I used the debian package line:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/andreas-wenning/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

and upon trying to install Kile, I got:

kile:
  Depends: kdebase-runtime (>=4:4.1.96) but 4:4.1.4-0ubuntu1~intrepid1.1 is
to be installed
  Depends: kdelibs5 (>=4:4.1.96) but 4:4.1.4-0ubuntu1~intrepid1.1 is to be
installed

Hi Yossi

You you need kde4.2+ (from backports) on intrepid/8.10 to use it. If you get a chance to test it on either jaunty or on intrepid+kde4.2 and kile from the ppa then please do and report back. If you have a live-cd with jaunty you can boot on that one and install kile and test.

After doing some testing I can't reproduce this in the new version of Kile; and I'm marking the problem as such. If you find that it is not fixed in the new version for you, please reopen the bug by set the Status back to 'New'.

I still see this problem even using Kile from your PPA on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic

Kile
Version 2.0.85
Using KDE 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5)

I manually set the master file for my project since Kile failed to detect it (I \input my preamble from a separate file which seems to confuse it). But I can't imagine how that could cause any problems.

Florian Rathgeber (florian-rathgeber) wrote :

I was not quite right about that: It only happens for errors in the preamble, those are reported to occur in the master tex file, but on the same line they actually occur in the preamble. Errors from files \input after \begin{document} are reported correctly.

To make my point clear, i have the following structure (strongly simplified):

master.tex:
  \input{preamble}
  \begin{document}
    \input{chapters/chapter1}
    ...
  \end{document}

Meaning all packages are loaded and all initialization in preamble.tex. This obviously confuses Kile (though it is perfectly "legal") and I would consider that as a bug.
