Bug Description

In Kubuntu Hardy, I can not shutdown and reboot with K menù -> shutdown or reboot.
I see a black screen with only mouse pointer but the system not freeze, then I press CTRL+ALT+F1 and I write a command line:
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
sudo reboot or sudo poweroff
so the system reboot....but it is the only way.
Hibernation and suspension works, I don't have any problems.

lex@kubuntu:~$ uname -a
Linux kubuntu 2.6.24-8-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 14 20:13:27 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

xserver-xorg-video-intel version: 2:2.2.0.90-2ubuntu7
xserver-xorg version: 1:7.3+10ubntu5

With LiveCd Kubuntu Hardy Alpha4 I hadn't this problem

Thanks

Could you please recheck this issue with a Live CD. The best would be to test it at first with Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 5 Live CD http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-5/ and if it works maybe recheck it with the Kubuntu one .

Hi unggnu, thanks for your answer.
I rechecked with Ubuntu hardy alpha5 and with Kubuntu hardy alpha 5. It both work. So, the issue is presents in my installation only...do you know why? Imho the problem is KDM doesn't stop during reboot or shutdown. Maybe?
I met a kubuntu user in IRC, and he has the same problem...but he has ATI graphic card.

Thanks

Confirmed using Kubuntu Hardy Heron Beta, installed via update from Gutsy.

Same issue: black screen with mouse cursor, have to CTRL+ALT+1 to shutdown or restart. Using an ASUS A6Jc laptop (nVidia video card).

I also have the same problem with Kubuntu hardy updated from Gutsy. While in the black screen I can also kill X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and then login to shutdown.

I've uninstalled the keytouch package and now I can logout and shutdown from a KDE session. Somehow, keytouchd was blocking this.

Even though it now works, the logout process seems to be substantially slower that Kubuntu Gutsy.
