Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-package

Hello,

I tried to use the framebuffer on gutsy (vga=792) but it seems broken, there only is a black screen. At least two other persons could confirm it.

Regards.

I can confirm it in Gutsy (kernel 2.6.22-12-generic).

I have the same problem with framebuffer kernel parameters vga=791 (1024x768) or vga=839 (1600x1200).
I know my video card support those modes because i check it with the command `hwinfo --framebuffer`,
and all was fine in Feisty.

regards.

I think bug #144212 (package console-tools) is the same bug.
I have exactly the same messed up screen as shown in the attached screenshot.

Hello,
can you try the fix proposed in bug 129910 fixes the issue ? (basically, add fbcon to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules, run sudo update-initramfs -u, and reboot with vga=whatever). I think your issue might be caused by that bug
Cheers

Changed in kernel-package:
status: New → Triaged

That works.
Thanks.

Could this also be related to my probs trying to install Gusty using the HD media install?

As you can see in the screen shot the screen goes crazy after selecting selecting the Ubuntu-Desktop package.

BuGabundo, that problem during installation is bug 127008, which has just been fixed.

Thanks for the heads up.
I'll subscrive to that bug then.
