Binary package hint: kdevelop
This happened immediately after kubuntu install - the initial launch of the KDE desktop failed with a ksplashx crash, then this. Don't know if the two are linked, but KDE and most apps that requires same are effectively crippled on my system, on which gdm works just fine...
I'm running ubuntu 9.10 and installed the kubuntu package that was available via synaptic as of 11/8/2009. Sorry that I don't have the details per your guidelines below, but the only thing that seems to be working as of this moment are the crash detector and Konqueror...
