Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeutils

When the KDE Wallet Manager tells me that e.g. Amarok wants to open a wallet, I get asked for a password.

However, clicking OK or pressing Enter to confirm it does nothing.

TEST CASE:
0. Select "Show three bullets for each letter" in "System Settings" => "Password & User Account" => "At Password Prompt"
1. Open http://trac.edgewall.org/login in Konqueror.
2. A authorization dialog should come up.
3. Enter anything and click OK.
4. Nothing happens, the window stays open. Only when clicking the "minimize" button, it gets submitted.

WORKAROUND:
Enter the password, press Enter, then minimize the password dialog.

One of the latest updates (yesterday, I think) fixed it for me.

Maybe, this bug affects all dialog windows in KDE. Another one is Authorization Dialog in Konqueror.

Would be interesting to know if this is an upstream bug (in KDE)..

Most probably it is. We aren't patching anything in regards to kwalletmanager.

As I mention above (on 2009-11-29) this bug affects other dialogs windows.

@Jonathan: can't you confirm this?
I could forward this of course, but I guess it's not an upstream issue, since then it would have been fixed a long time ago already.

"user_" on #kubuntu could not confirm this bug on Hardy, although he is using kwalletmanager, too.

Nope, I use kwallet multiple times every day and it works fine. Maybe you have some weird/buggy window management settings?

@Jonathan: You are right. I created new user and its KDE isn't affected by this bug. Would you be so kind and advise us, how to locate our bad setting (Qt4 config, window management)?

If you go to System Settings -> Window Behavior, you could try fiddling around with stuff there, or even revert the settings to default to see if that fixes things.

I located the cause of this bug on my system. Go to System Settings -> About me -> Password & User Account and select Show three bullets for each letter, than relogin. Can you confirm it?

Daniel Hahler (blueyed) wrote :

zigi, great find! That's the cause!

So the workaround is using "Show one bullet for each letter" or "Show nothing".

I'll forward this to the KDE bug tracker. Thanks for nailing this issue!

Yeah, that did it.
I've reported it to KDE[1], and will close this bug since we are only tracking downstream and high severity bugs at Launchpad.

A fix was committed upstream for KDE 4.4 RC3, which is also available as an update today. That's probably what fixed it.
