kdesvn crash. corrupt path names

Bug Description

kdesvn crashes or is unable to open local copy or remote repository.

From the error messages on the terminal, I can see that the path name is corrupted. For instance:
$ kdesvn /home/ioannis/Documents/thesis
kdesvn: Appname = kdesvn
kdesvn: '8Se/ioannis/Documents' is not a working copy
Can't open file '8Se/ioannis/Documents/.svn/entries': No such file or directory
kdesvn: unable makeStatus
kdesvn: Destructor KdesvnFileListPrivate done

as you can see, the actual directory is '/home/ioannis/Documents/thesis'. So it seems that it corrupts the first part and chops off the last part.

Occasionally it works and accepts the path, but later on fails when browsing directories under that svn entry, within kdesvn, with error messages such as the following:
Valid UTF-8 data
(hex:)
followed by invalid UTF-8 sequence
(hex: 98 b2 2c 08)

On other cases it crashes immediately when trying to open a repository . This happens on two ubuntu installations, one x86 and the other x86-64, with latest updates. It used to work fine. it seems that one of the latest updates brought a regression.

If you are using hardy-backports, then it is probably because subversion 1.5 has been backported. Then this would be a dupe of bug #268112

thanks for the pointer. Yes, I'm using the hardy-backports on both systems, so I guess you are right.
