Version: 1.0-beta5 "Pierre" (using KDE 3.2.3, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 20040412 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.3-r6, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.6-win4lin-r3

This idea is akin to Evolution's Virtual Directories.

I have only been using akregator for a few days, I only have four world news sites (amoung others), article count is 200+.

That a lot of searching, even using the filter. Yes I am aware of "directory" trees.

The initial idea is to have a virtual feed called "Election", setup search parameters (multiple search strings, search headlines and/or descriptions, feeds to search). And the mouth watering idea? Searching the articles themselves. In essence the start of a news feed agent.

The computer does it's magic and I am presented with all news article to my specifications.

How? Search the given feeds and extract the matches to create a local rss file. Everything else would work the same.

I was thinking of exactly this just a few minutes ago. I realized I'm interested in reading Slashdot articles regarding HTML, and there's no reason a news aggregator couldn't show me only such articles that fit my criteria.

With a filter of some kind (such as the one suggested) this could be very simple.

All the functionality is in kmail, and presumably the code too.

This would be a logical extension of advance filter capabilities,
see kmail for practical implementation.

Another reason I am advocating cloning kmail is reduce user education and it's a very adaptive way to program and create filters. Also it would be a push towards standardizing how filtering is done in KDE. Why re-invent the wheel?

Just, so it is noted... have parent tree nodes become virtual rss feed groups. That is, if a parent tree node is specified then the filtering rule applies all its *current* children.

When you say sortable what exactly do you mean? Using akregator that is currently in Breezy I can change the order the feeds show up, create new folders, move feeds into those new folders and even delete folders that contain feeds. What exactly are you looking for when you say "sortable"

I mean that one should be able to select a menu item that says, "Sort this feed list," and that as a result the feed list would be sorted in ascending or descending alphabetical order. All the contortions you list are indeed possible, but they don't make it possible to sort the feeds.

Clicking on the title bars on the top of the window where the feeds are listed allows to sort them by name and date.

I really don't see what else you might mean.

I don't mean the lists of posts. I mean the list of feeds, in the left frame. It is not sortable. It ought to be.

I can move the list of feeds and it is sort A -> Z.

You mean that you can manually move the items around, right? That's not sufficient: you should be able to right-click on the column heading, select "sort ascending" or "sort descending" and have the program take care of sorting for you.

Yes, some possibility to create new filters or extend the list in quick filter would be nice. Some sites produce long feeds where articles are categorized but don't allow retrieve feeds for particular category. Therefore i'd like to sort them myself somehow.
Anyway is there any progress in this?

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this feature request! Unfortunately, at this time Kubuntu does not have the developer manpower needed to implement and maintain many features at the Kubuntu level. But don't worry! This issue is being tracked by the KDE developers at: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85615
Once implemented in KDE, it will be included in Kubuntu once the KDE version the feature is implemented in reaches Kubuntu.

Thanks!

without virtual folders (aka labels) similar to those in M2 (the mail client in Opera) I don't find aKregator conducive to my needs. I have 100+ feed sources and without a way to group the feeds based on content instead of just source I am not able to identify and manage those feeds of interest. Until such capabilities are added I don't see aKregator as a viable rss reader
