Bug Description

I am using KMail 1.8.3 on KDE 3.4.3 on Breezy Badger. I am trying to send an
e-mail but it won't let me enter any text in the body. I can enter text in the
To: field and the Subject: field but I can't enter any text in the body of the
e-mail. The cursor flashes as I type but no text appears and the status bar
continues to show Column: 1 Line: 1

Do you still have this problem?

No response on this for some months, it was reported on Breezy, and it's probably safe to assume that if all kmail users were restricted to body-less emails, we would have heard more. Closing. Original poster: please feel free to reopen this ticket if it still occurs in a supported release.

I don't see a way to re-open this. Will this comment re-open the bug?

I am still seeing this for kmail 1.9.1 on KDE 3.5.2 on Ubuntu 6.06.

Are you still experiencing this bug? If yes, on what version of Kubuntu and KDE?
I can't reproduce this on Kubuntu 6.10 using KDE 3.5.6. If you are still experiencing this problem, please feel free to add a comment. Thanks!

I am using KDE 3.80.1-0ubuntu4 and Kubuntu kubuntu-desktop. I started kmail from the command line and noticed the following line on the console for each character I typed:

/bin/sh: kvim: not found

I don't see a kvim or vim-kde package in the Synaptic package manager.

That should be:

"I am using ... kubuntu-desktop 1.22".

Good morning,

I am using KMail 1.9.6 (Using KDE 3.5.6) and I am unable to reproduce this bug. When I start KMail from the command line I do not have any problems typing a new message.
Am I missing something or just not seeing the bug?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Doesnt seem like anyone using a stable version of kubuntu, which is still supported is finding this.

OK, I finally figured out what the problem is. I had "kvim -f %f" set as the external editor but I don't have kvim installed. When I disabled the external editor it worked. It would be nice if there was a graphical dialog box displayed if it is unable to launch the external editor. If the user launched kmail from a toolbar they would have no clue as to why they can't compose an e-mail.
