Bug Description

Kmail loses emails sometimes!

ubuntu 7.10 amd 64: ii kmail 4:3.5.7enterpr KDE Email client

From local folders - so there is no way to refresh them. If You have the emails still on the server you can recreated account or download
it again in a program that do not lose emails, but otherwise your email is lost.

It would seem this happens especially when kmail crash, but it would seem that not only then.

The lost email have No Subject as subject, Unknown as sender, and totally empty body (v).
However, the Size is set and seems to be correct.

Imho this is a grave bug, because it may cause irreversible data lost.

What are you doing to make kmail crash?

@ Sarah Hobbs,

to crash kmail I for example do
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdepim/+bug/193101

or do a search in all messages in all local folders (this works always on this account at least)

The email is gone from local folder
oferty/1_wybrane/poprawaserv/
where I moved it some time ago from inbox (from pop account)

on the hard drive, directory

~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/.ofery.directory/.1_wybrane.directory/poprawaserv/cur

contains files for all email, except this two emails which are missing.

So apparently kmail left info about them in cache but destroyed them on hard drive :(

This bug was filed on Gutsy. Does this still occur in hardy? If so what version of KDE are you currently using? Likewise, what version of kmail?
