Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdenlive

Kdenlive uses the drkonqi binary and crashes nastily without it. The drkonqi binary is in the kdebase-bin package and so this should be a dependency of kdelive.

(Information based on Hardy package names and locations.)

AFTER finding the need for 2 packages in order to see 1394 capture screen
(first reference was correct second said ffplay but ffmpeg was the closest so I loaded that)
I just fell over this problem whilst waiting for those other packages to load. I was just trying to move clips from the top panel down to the time-line panel.

I actually used (Ubuntu 8.04 server) Synaptics and downloaded kde-extras (so no doubt got much more than I needed).
As soon as that was installed, kdenlive just crashed [ Signal 11 ] after it had drawn its panels and contents. i.e. even worse than before ! back to XP again I'm afraid
... Oh, not yet as a new shell and restart didn't crash :-}
...hmm depends on recovery/project file; very fragile.

Here's the backtrace for what it's worth:

The crash without 'drkonqi' looks like this:

duncan@media-machine:~$ kdenlive
kbuildsycoca running...
Reusing existing ksycoca
KCrash: Application 'kdenlive' crashing...
Could not find 'drkonqi' executable.
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.
duncan@media-machine:~$

(there are some other problems there as well)

Something must have changed, I get the same error after I have installed kdebase-bin in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid with Gnome) with kdenlive 0.5.svn20071228-0.0ubuntu3

Yeah, kdebase became a KDE4 package in 8.10, while kdenlive hadn't released a KDE4 version yet.
This should be fixed in Kubuntu 9.04. drkonqi is no longer an executable (as far as I can see) and should be available to any KDE app without installing extra packages.

I have the same problem, but it's with ktechlab.
It looks like this:

evans@evans-pc:~$ ktechlab
kbuildsycoca running...
Reusing existing ksycoca
KCrash: Application 'ktechlab' crashing...
Could not find 'drkonqi' executable.
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.
evans@evans-pc:~$

By the way, what is drkonqi anyway?

Ok, I found that drkonqi is the crash handler.
By the way, I found some information that might help:

ICE error: Offending minor opcode = 3 (AuthRequired)
            Offending sequence number = 4
            Error class = AuthenticationFailed
            Severity = FatalToProtocol
Reason : Could not find correct MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 authentication

I don't know what that mean.
