Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdenlive

I have installed kdenlive 0.5svn20071228-0.0ubuntu1 under Ubuntu Hardy Heron stable via Universe repository.
The applications crashes very frequently, even immediately after launch.

Worst is, the software crashes very very frequently (and with no obvious workaround) when you try to re-load some project previously saved, expecially if the timeline includes some audio track.

The application seems to load correctly the .kdenlive file contents; it is clear it begins to work because the clip list on the left begins to be populated with thumbnails, but then suddenly the application crashes filling the timeline at the bottom of the main kdenlive window.

Sometimes it happens that a little window remains opened, showing the unsuccessful attempt to save the auto project-recovery file in kdenlive's /tmp folder.

It is absolutly impossible to use this very good app to work on any serious project, because the risk is to loose the ability to access the video projects you were producing. Maybe it was better not to upgrade the kdenlive's version distributed with Gutsy....

Adding to the previous:

Today I have installed a brand new kubuntu (not Ubuntu, Kubuntu) 8.04 linux box in order to test if the behaviour was still present even on an "all kde" environment.
The answer is YES. The sw crashed in the same way and with all the same symptoms. :(

New update:
Kdenlive become much much more stable, and restarted to load correctly .kdenlive files, after I switched the Video Driver setting from "Automatic" to "x11".
You can set this behaviour using "Settings"->"Configure Kdenlive" Menu.
I hope this could be useful also to other friends having the same problems as mine. :)

Changing from Automatic to X11 fixed this annoying bug for me. I wonder if this is more to do with an NVIDIA bug.

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.
