Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdemultimedia-kio-plugins

I'm using KUbuntu Jaunty with kdemultimedia-kio-plugins 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2 and kubuntu-restricted-extras 31.

Recently I noticed very handy feature: when I insert audio-cd and open it in dolphin, it shows audio-cd tracks as virtual files of different formats (wav, mp3, ogg, etc), and I can easily rip them just by dragging a file to desktop.

But when I drag an mp3-format-virtual-file, the generated file contains nothing more noise. (Wav and ogg are still ripped fine. Manual conversion wav->mp3 with lame from command line also works fine.)

"the generated file contains nothing more noise" -- I actually meant "the generated file contains a noise (and nothing more)"

I have exactly the same problem. I was able to work around it following the instructions in a comment to another mp3 encoding bug (in K3b):

Create a file ~/bin/lame with the following content:
#!/bin/sh
/usr/bin/lame --big-endian -x "$@"
