Kubuntu 9.04 calendar popup is not a proper popup

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-plasma

Clicking on the clock in the Kubuntu panel displays a calendar popup. Clicking on the clock again hides it.

However, it's not a proper popup. It behaves much more like a deranged version of a Plasma applet.

1) Clicking elsewhere does not close the popup (although it stays in the foreground, on top of all other windows).
2) It is possible to move the popup by dragging on the title, much like a plasma applet
 - it then sinks into the background, like a normal plasma applet
 - after moving it, plasma may crash. This seems to happen if it is moved behind another window.
 - after being moved, it jerks into position in a strange way
 - after moving it, clicking on the clock shows an empty popup instead

3) Clicking on the calendar icon to the left of the title text causes it to "unexpand" - that is, only the title text and icon are shown. This is pointless; it's a _popup_. I either want to see it or I don't! I don't need it to be able to show a collapsed version of itself which I have to expand to use.

This is an upstream design decision, and most of the issues have (crashes, jerks) have been resolved in KDE 4.3.
I'd recommend taking it up with KDE if you find the current state of things in KDE 4.3 unsatisfactory. :)
