Bug Description

Ever since the recent update to KDE 4.2 RC1 on Kubuntu Jaunty x64, pressing the Shutdown or Restart buttons on the Kickoff menu or the Leave button on the classic menu logs off (and returns to the KDM logon screen) instead of performing the actions that they should. This bug appears to have something to do with ksmserver, which immediately quits with an error stating it could not connect to DBUS when starting.

It happens for me too, but in Kubuntu Intrepid x32. Also with the shutdown widget and if pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del. Looks like the X server is restarted because the KDE session is not saved.

I don't know about your problem, but mine has something to do with ksmserver. When it launches, it immediately bombs with the error: Could not register with D-BUS. Aborting.

I can confirm, too, the same issue on KDE 4.2 RC1 on Intrepid i386, also the non-saving issue (i.e. any change to kmix).
I also have to add that my system does not return to the KDM login dialog, X does not restart and I have to manually log into a console (CTRL-ALT-F1/6) and halt the system.

As a temporary work-around for the non-saving Kmix problem, you can just quit and restart Kmix after making the changes. This will cause it to remember them.

For me the bug only occurs when I use the oxygen plasma-theme.
