Reboot-Restart Button with classic LogOut Dialog (doUbuntuLogout=0) doesn't work

Bug Description

System: Kubuntu 7.04 amd64
I inserted the following two lines

[Logout]
doUbuntuLogout=0

to ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc

to get back the old design of the KDE's logout-dialog (I dislike the huge buttons of the new design)

Okay, I got back the old design, but the restart-button does not work. I can click on it and press the shortcut and I can see the button going down - but the system does not restart. I have to finish the session and to use the restart-option from the login-screen.

I editited the ksmserver, so I assume an error in KDE's session manager (ksmserver 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu19) belonging to the kdebase-package

searched this bug with reboot doesn't work and cannot find it so I changed title.

Same problem here, button doesn't work in old style, back to the new and back to work.
As for now I stay with the new because I need reboot button, but I also agree that it's not so nice.

Sorry for being late on this.

For some reason the line which connect the reboot/restart button is commented out (I thought we fixed this already?).

so it's not hard to produce a patch and put packages in feisty-proposed ?

thanx

I already sent the patch to Riddell, but he will not be able to include it before next week.

The fixes will be included in KDE 3.5.7 on gutsy.

The bug doesn't pass the SRU on https://wiki.kubuntu.org/StableReleaseUpdates.

Only on Gutsy? I recently updated to 3.5.7 on Feisty and the button is still out of function.

Ledah probably it's not a kde specific bug, but a kubuntu patch that introduce it.

Anyway Stefan I think it's a SRU:
"Bugs which represent severe regressions from the previous release of Ubuntu"

you don't think that is a severe regressions because all people uses new logout theme? I haven't the same opinion...

Its a kubuntu-specific patch that introduces it alright.

The thing is that the kde 3.5.7 packages that Riddell just made available (which is not official ones - rather testing) is just the same as the current 3.5.6 patch-wise.

The "official" kde 3.5.7 gutsy packages have not been submitted yet, but they will include the fix.

Now, I think we should fix that reboot/restart button on the current feisty/kde 3.5.6 without question, but I was told that it wouldn't pass the SRU.

So I don't know what more I can do :(

It's a pity, but thanks for your engagement. Let's wait for Gutsy and hope we don't see the bug accidentally again.

My problem, regarding the "restart" button occurs in Ubuntu 7.10 tribe 5. In addition, after I execute "control+alt+backspace" to manually restart Ubuntu, when the system comes back after entering my name and password, it also pops up a "Nautilus" window and sometimes other windows like "movie player" for no apparent reason. I have to manually close these windows. The windows were not on the screen at the time I executed the button command to "restart".

Also, after a restart in this manner, I no longer see the "GL compiz tray icon" in the upper Gnome tool bar, even though I have GL Desktop it set to always appear in the tray.

I'm no expert Ubuntu user, but, as far as I know there is only one
Restart button in a pop up dialog box that has the option to Restart,
Logout, Hibernate, Shutoff, Suspend and Switch User. If you know of a
better place to post this based on the original poster's description of
the problem, please let me know.

Well it seems like you're using GNOME for your desktop, but this bug report is for KDE and the corresponding customized logout we use in favor of the default Konqy logout.

I've talked to some guys in #ubuntu-devel, and they figure its a saved session that causes you problems. Please ask in #ubuntu or #ubuntu-devel related to those issues.

Sorry for not being able to provide you with more specific information.

Kind regards,
Stefan
