When trying to remove the residual config files for kdm synaptic fails.

Fixed by reinstalling kdm and selecting gdm in the install dialogue then purging kdm.

Hi, thank you for taking your time to file this bug and help to make ubuntu better. Did you ever delete or rename the kdm.conf in the past?

no but i think my system was set to use kdm and that was the problem.
