Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

The following process is still running after having entered into kdm:
    root 347 0.3 0.2 7672 6200 ? S 18:14 0:01 /sbin/plymouthd --mode=boot --attach-to-session --pid-file=/dev/.initramfs/plymouth.pid

According to #plymouth on IRC, this should not be the case, and it does not happen when using GDM instead of KDM.

On a related note, X tends to get restarted sometimes after boot, most likely when pressing Enter for the first time (e.g. during entering the login credentials in kdm/gdm, or having opened a Konsole and executing a command after login).

This must be a regression somewhere in kdm for failing to kill plymouth. It's the DM's responsibility to stop plymouth when it's ready - and the plymouth code hasn't changed (as evidenced by everything still working right with GDM).
