Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde4

Even looking at the display settings drops the screen resolution down to 1024x768. It was 1440x900 but there seems to be no way to get it back. The 'apply' button remains greyed out even after choosing the correct resolution.

This is on KDE4, Kubuntu installed from kubuntu-kde4-8.04-alternate-amd64.iso plus updates as of today.

Have you gone through 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' ?

Can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

I've checked, using diff, that xorg.conf is the same before, during and after.

FWIW here it is in the attachment.

I did a quick search--your symptoms (for both of these bugs together) seem identical to bug 211682.

As Yuriy said on your other bug, it seems that something in KDE is detecting the wrong resolution.

Have a look at bug 211682 (together with the screenshot) and check whether you're seeing anything different from that.
