Animations in KDE 4 not blocked, and can force you to reset and reinstall ubuntu with KDE 4.0

I tried to turn on animations in KDE 4, which I can't because my PC does not have a good enough graphic card. So I turned it on, it logged off, and I tryed to log back on, but of course it tries by default to put animations on, so it crashes and logges me off. So basically, if I try animations, i will have to reinstall Linux. I am not happy with KDE 4, too soon of a release, stick with 3.

Why do you try to turn the desktop effects on when you know that they will not work? Oo

Anyway, what graphics card do you have? What driver are you using? What version of KDE 4 did you try?

Btw, just for information, I rather think this is an issue of the graphic driver, KWin is running a couple of tests before actually initializing the effects usage. It does however save the effect setting before testing, which leads to that login problem - defenitely needs to be fixed in my opinion.

I am using a VIA unicrome Pro , 64mb of graphic memory. I am updating, so what kind of graphic card should I buy?
