Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4

Xubuntu 8.10
kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 4:4.1.3-0ubuntu1~intrepid1

E.g. try launching "kstart --iconify xterm" and notice that desktop is shown and xterm is launched and raised; I expect it to be minimized and focus retained.

It worked better in Xfce session of Xubuntu 8.04, so I wonder what is wrong.

Well, that version is certainly not an ubuntu one.
Moving bug anyways, since there is a good chance it's an upstream issue and not related to Ubuntu nor Debian.

The bug exists in Xubuntu 8.10 even if when using supported packages.

Can this be reproduced using the final release of Xfce 4.6 in Hardy or Intrepid? It should be available here:

Thanks for helping improve Xubuntu.

It's been established that this isn't a kstart problem, and there's already an xfwm4 task.

Also, kstart is not the package that you think it is. :)

Xubuntu 8.10 will reach EOL in April 2010 with the release of 10.04.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Please either a) upgrade and test or test using the Lucid Lynx Live environment from the desktop cd. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 317122.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Just as a side note, as for Xubuntu, I'd like to see another solution than kstart, since it uses more than 300MB extra disk space and needs a lot of extra libraties, mainly qt stuff.

affects: kstart (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

As a solution to comment #17, Xubuntu does not add kstart. Can you find another application that works for you that is lighter? If you add applications, you should not expect the distribution to try to make it lighter for you.

At least in Xubuntu 9.10, the bug still exists. As for #18, Xfce has focus stealing prevention in Window manager tweaks settings. It works somewhat differently, though.
