Bug Description
When installing kubuntu-desktop from the package manager in 10.10, you are given the choice of keeping gdm or using kdm as your login manager. Unfortunately gdm is the "wrong" choice, and causes breakage in sound control, removes the shutdown button from kde's menu, and perhaps other aspects. Nowhere in the installation process of kubuntu-desktop is this made clear. New users may suffer from some of these problems without realizing the cause.
A possible improvement would be in kdm's setup, include the text that kubuntu is meant to use kdm, and aspects of the desktop may not work as expected using gdm.

One other thing I remember happening is that KDE would sometimes experience display breakage at at or after the loading screen. I have kdm in use now, so I don't remember the behavior exactly.
