Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde-guidance

With a fresh install of Herd 2 updated to the current versions, guidance power-manager consumes steadily increasing amounts of memory.

This is an a Dell Latitude L400. CPU scaling shows nothing, so that would tend to exhonorate that function.

Confirmed that Edgy does not have this problem (allee, ScootK).
Confirmed that Feisty Herd2 does not have this problem (Lure on Live CD)

So it is delta between Herd2 and Herd3, which can be:
- powermanager changes
- python 2.4 -> python 2.5 transition
- python-dbus 0.80 upgrade

I have tested this now with up-to-date Feisty and previous version of python-dbus (0.71-3ubuntu1) and I can not reproduce the problem. Memory usage stays flat at 20 MB.

This means that the problem was caused by python-dbus 0.80.1-1 (aka "Everything changes" release).

I will get in contact with upstream in order to get some help in nailing down this problem.

Problem also occurs for me on Kubuntu 7.04 Herd 2, with all current updates.
Laptop is Compaq Armada M700. CPU Scaling to Performance was only change to power-manager. Problem occurs when laptop is on for more than 24 hours.

I can confirm that the problem I initially reported (memory growth) is no longer happening. OTOH, guidance-power manager is now using 29MB memory instead of 20MB. This is not a small change....
