Bug Description

Im running kubuntu 12.10 raring but this problem it also appeared in 12.04 quantal.

When starting dolphin as root we can see in the output that fails to get inotify_add_watch:

~:~$ LC_ALL=C kdesudo dolphin &
[1] 22628
simplew@insys-W150HRM:~$ Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /root/.config/ibus/bus

from this point each time i oduble click in a text file i get this message: KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/kwrite'

and the same will happen for all associated applications.

This problem appears to come from the implementation from the related patches about inotify_add_watch in kubuntu.
In other distros that do not use this implementation this problem appears to not exist, those distros only needed to have xhost set in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ and running applications from dolphin root appears to work fine.

I get those warnings too and it works, so this isn't an inotify issue at least.

This bug has shown up on my system. 32bit, running Netscape Enigma/Kubuntu 13.04.

In terminal:

gksu dolphin

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

sudo dolphin

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-vtpoet" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.

The only workaround I've found is to install Thunar, and run it as root.

Prior to my last update, I was able to run Dolphin as root.
